| Canada 2nd at 2016 North American Championships |
A clash of North American Nations went down on Saturday September 10 2016 as the USA and Canada went head to head on a single center table at ICC Table Tennis Center in Milpitas, CA. The winners come from the United States in both the Women’s and Men’s Team competition and therefore qualified for the 2017 ITTF World Team Cup.
Team Canada Women: Mo Zhang, Isabelle Xiong, Ivy Liao
Both #1 players from Canada, Mo Zhang, and from the US, Lily Zhang were unbeatable. Mo won quickly with 3-0 against Crystal Wang and later on with 3-1 against Wang Chen. While our Canadians Ivy Liao and Isabelle Xiong both had no chance against Lily Zhang and lost each 3-0. The doubles made the difference on winning the game. Team Canada won the first set. Both Ivy and Isabelle had set points to win the second set, but did not succeed, losing by a margin of 2 points only. After that the US Team got better and better, winning the match 3-1.

Team Canada Men: Jeremy Hazin, Antoine Bernadet, Moxi Guo
It all started with an amazing match between Jeremy Hazin and US's Feng Yijun. Being 2-0 in front, Jeremy seemed unstoppable. Feng came back, but it was not enough to stop the Canadian from winning the final set 11-5. Antoine Bernadet had a great start against Jha Kanak with winning the first set. Kanak recovered quickly and won the following 3 sets, tying the match. The doubles match (Jeremy and Moxi) and the single (Moxi Guo) match, Canada had chances to turn the game around, but the US won both of them with 3-2, ending with a 3-1 win for the United States.
