Silver for Canadian Champions Pierre-Luc Thėriault and Mo Zhang at the 2015 ITTF NA Championships |
September 7th 2015, Westchester, NY - it was close, but sadly enough not close enough. The Americans took all titles at these 2015 championships, leaving Canada with the Silver Medal in the Men's and Women's Single event.
It was a good experience for our junior and Cadet players to participate in this tournament. Jeremy Hazin was one of these players. Winning against the higher ranked Avvari from the US, gave him a spot in the quarter finals in the men's competition.
2015 three times Canadian Champion Pierre-Luc Thėriault was close to winning the Men's final against Timothy Wang, who he had beaten at the 2015 Pan American Games. “It was like the other way around. Yesterday I lost against Timothy, I changed my tactics today and won him. I won Kanak yesterday, and he changed his tactic. He played very well.”
Mo Zhang, 2015 Canadian Women's Champion was very close on winning the title against Lily Zhang from the United States. 3-0 in front with an impressive power play left the American with almost no chance. After that Lily came back to celebrating the title. The next tournament for Mo will be the ITTF World Cup where she can proof that she belongs to the top players in the world. “I had the 3-0 lead, but after that I guess I was too tired, and just rushing too much, wanting to finish the match. I got nervous and panicked after the third game, and the situation just went in Lily’s favour.”
