The all-male contingent includes Jeremy Lau of Vancouver, Lester Lee of West Vancouver, Dun Han Li of Richmond Hill, Ont., James Pintea of Ottawa and Max Xia of Toronto, as well as team leader Yecan Yang of Thornhill, Ont.

Pintea, a Carleton University student, won the singles title at the North American junior championships in 2012.
Li, who attends McMaster University, had a brilliant junior career, including the Canadian under-13 doubles title in 2009, to go with a silver medal in singles. Lee, a former member of the junior national squad enrolled at the University of Michigan, accomplished his greatest feat in 2013 when he won the junior team title at the Hungarian Open, where he teamed up with two athletes from Taiwan.

In its last Universiade appearance in table tennis, in 2011 in Shenzhen, China, Canada enjoyed limited success, advancing past the preliminaries in mixed doubles only. Both Canadian pairs won two matches before bowing out in the round of 16.

The Gwangju tournament will run from July 6 to 13. Canada is still looking for its first FISU Games medal in the sport.
