International Umpire named for the Olympics in RIO 2016 – Table Tennis |
The Olympic Games will have one of Canada’s best umpires at the Games in the person of Denis Vigeant of Montreal, Quebec. His career is more than 30 years. He has travelled the world since 1980 to acquire the experience and skills necessary to be identified as a top official not only in Canada but in the World and be selected for this most prestigious event.
Denis Vigeant completed the “Blue Badge” program in 2004 which promotes an umpire to the highest ranks an official can reach in his career. There are more than 4000 International Umpires in the world but Denis has passed the criteria set forth by the International Table Tennis Federation to become a Blue Badge Umpire. He is one of 250 elite officials who have attended an advanced umpire training course, wrote and passed an Advanced Rules Exam and has been evaluated by a third party at ITTF tournaments once a year where he “met expectations” Canada is very proud to have Denis Vigeant of Quebec as our umpire at the Olympics in Rio for 2016. Congratulations Denis Vigeant (QC).
