Velenje, Slovenia - In an incredible run, Canada's #1 ranked player Eugene Wang Zhen advanced to the quarter finals at the GAC ITTF WORLD TOUR Slovenian Open. After accounting for Singapore's Gao Ning and Yang Zi by scores of 4:3 and 4:2 he left Croatian Tan Ruiwu no chance in the round of 16. Eugene dominated the match from the start and advanced to the Quarter Finals by a score of 4:0 (11-2,11-7,11-4,11-9).
Now the Canadian finds himself in the upper half of the draw surrounded by three Chinese players. Ma Long will be Eugene's next opponent. Ma Long is #1 on the ITTF World Ranking and undefeated since June 2011 where he suffered at the hands of Ma Lin, the 2008 Olympic Champion. The two other players in Eugene's half are Ma Lin and Wang Hao, both need no introduction.
