Manitoba’s Matthew Lehmann has made the move to Austria to not just learn german, but also to improve his Table Tennis skills. He now plays for the same club as Canadians Mo Zhang and Alicia Côté, Linz AG Froschberg. Matthew joined the men’s team that played in the Upper Austrian Landesliga, what is the third highest division in Austria.
"Monday to Friday I usually train twice a day for two and a half hours each session. On my own I do extra service practice and fitness training. While I am here I am trying to learn the German language, so I take lessons about once a week and do studying on my own” he says.
"Most of the year so far I have been focusing on the basics and improving my technique. Now as the Canadians Championships is approaching, I'm starting to shift focus to improve my match play.” Matthew will be joining fellow Canadian’s Antoine Bernadet and Marko Medjugorac at the Luxembourg Open next week. Both Marko and Matthew will also be participating at the Slovenian and Zagreb Open in April in May.
"Training has been going well lately, so I'm excited to see how I will do at these upcoming tournaments. I will be returning to Canada sometime before the Canadian Championships this summer. My short-term goal is to continue improving my game, and to have a good showing at this summer's Canadian Championships.”
All the best to you Matthew!!!
