Newest National Referee in Canada - Joseph Chan |
JOSEPH CHAN of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is Canada’s newest National Referee for Table Tennis. After many years as a Regional Umpire, Joseph wrote the National Umpire Exam and the attended the National Referee course in 2010 in Vancouver.. He was successful with both levels. However, the practical component for the National Referee level is arranged for all candidates on a rotation basis. Joseph successfully completed the practicum in 2014 at the National Championships in Alberta and again in British Columbia at the Canada Games in Feb 2015.
At the Nationals in Alberta, Joseph demonstrated his expertise in conducting a draw and creating a time schedule successfully. At the Winter Games, Joseph demonstrated that he has the proper skill sets in coordinating umpires and local volunteers to carry out the scheduled events. He was calm and carried out his duties in a professional manner. He worked well with the umpire team and communicated well with coaches and players alike. He also showed initiatives and provided suggestions to improve presentations.
