Gregory Chan of
Manitoba has reached the highest level of officiating as an umpire as
recognized by the ITTF. The road to qualify as a BLUE BADGE umpire is
very stressful and takes a long time to achieve. A candidate must attend
an Advanced Umpire Seminar, pass an Advanced Rules Exam, receive 4 “meets
expectations” from at least three different evaluators and finally pass the
English interview. After becoming an International umpire a few years
ago, Gregory embarked on a pathway over a three year period that resulted with
him joining the ranks of other outstanding umpires in the World. Canada
is privileged to have 6 ctive Blue Badge Umpires. They include:
Greg Dzioba (MB), Darek Mikita (MB), Tony Shaw (BC), Norman Tang (ON), Denis Vigeant (QC) and
now Gregory Chan.
Gregory is in an
excellent position to be considered for the Pan American Games (2015) and the
Olympics (2016).
Congratulations Gregory Chan.
