Good things come in threes, or at least in a pair. Pierre-Luc Theriault received the LA CAPITALE Bursary For Academic Excellence of $4,000. Putting the new funds to good use, Theriault traveled to Florida for the Florida Open where he promptly won the Open Singles competition.
After Florida, Theriault joins the Canadian team for the US Open in Las Vegas.
Success in Florida and in Markham
Canada's #1 Eugene Wang defeated Kalinikos Kreanga (Greece) in a one-sided final at the Butterfly Open hosted by Canadian Chinese Table Tennis Association. A number of world ranked players competed for the $5,000 top prize, Filip Szymansky (Poland) finished 3rd, ahead of Mississauga's Sun Jian Fei. The tournament attracted about 2,000 spectators and showcased table tennis at it best.
