Baltimore, MD - November 25, 2012
Canada's #1 Eugene Zhen Wang continues his series of world
class results with his Atlanta team at the North American Open Team
Championships in Baltimore.
The two top seeded teams - JOOLA Europe and Atlanta Table
Tennis Academy - met in the finals of the traditional international team
competition at the Baltimore Convention Center; the competition featured 643
player competing in 158 teams.
In the team finals, Atlanta led 1-0 when Wang was drawn
against JOOLA Europe's #1 Chen Weixing, ranked 28 on the ITTF World Ranking
list. In a see-saw battle, down 7-10 in the deciding 5th game of the match,
Wang scored five points in a row to take the match and give his team an
important 2-0 lead.
"This was a difficult match for me," said Wang
after the match. "Chen is among the best players in the world, and his
style of play is unusual, you never know what he is up to next."
JOOLA Europe's Liu Song defeated Atlanta's Kewei Li to get
Atlanta back into the game. At 2-1, Atlanta's Jikang Liu - 2012 Quarter Finalist
at the most difficult table tennis competition in the world, the Chinese Table
Tennis Championships - bested Chen Weixing in a manner similar to Eugene
Wang's; Liu won 3-2, 11-9 in the fifth.
This brings Eugene Wang's most successful year to a close - US
Open Champions, North American Open Team Champion and Quarter Finalist at the
ITTF World Tour Slovenian Open.
Eugene Wang is now off for 6 weeks training in China and
will return to international competition in February 2012.
